Precision Optical
Component Alignment
Key issue resolved:
laser alignment within 0.002" of an enclosure datum
Products
used: Aculux 2-D Optical Position Sensor
The following is an example of how the 2-D Optical Position Sensor can aid in precise optical alignments. Below is a picture of an Aculux 2-D Optical Position Sensor in use at Eclipse Optics, Inc., an optical design and manufacturing house. The 2-D sensor is being used to align a laser axis perpendicular to a case datum. The 2-D sensor preamp board is mounted on a carriage. As the carriage is moved near and far, the laser is determined to be perpendicular when the X and Y data changes by less than a certain amount.
This technique could also be used for aligning mirrors,
gratings, etc...

The 2-D PSD board is visible in the upper center of the picture.
Here the sensor is used to establish alignment of a laser module subassembly.
